Abstract: Experimental Investigation of three fuels namely Diesel, kerosene and petrol pool fire with pool diameter of d = 0.2 m, 0.3 m and 0.4 m are performed at newly established fire facility of MIED.IIT Roorkee. Heat release rate, Mass burning rate (th"), flame length (II), temperature (T) and velocity of flame of (Kerosene, gasoline and diesel) pool fires are measured for three pool diameters. The measured mass burning rate of Kerosene, Gasoline and Diesel pool fires are in the range of 0.0184 kg/(m2s) to 0.0350 kg/(m2 s) and show little dependence on the pool diameter. The measured time varying maximum flame temperatures T for Kerosene, gasoline and diesel pool fires are in the range of 700°C to 910°C and are measured by K type thermocouples: CFD simulations of Kerosene, Gasoline and Diesel pool fires at d = 0.2 m, 0.3m and 0.4m are carried out using the Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) equations. The three-dimensional geometries have been discretized with tetrahedron grid, with the number of cells in the range of 1 million. For solving the discretized equations a finite volume based implicit solver ANSYS 13.CFX has been used. For modeling the combustion, stoichiometric combustion for fuels are assumed. For modeling the combustion flamelet model has been used. For turbulence buoyancy modified k-❑ turbulence models are used. For the thermal radiation and soot mass fraction discrete transfer radiation model and Magnusson soot model have been used.
