Issue Date: 2012
Abstract: Development of a suitable joining technique for advanced aluminium alloys and composites will enable them to be more widely used. From last three decades works are going on to find out suitable joining technique for aluminum alloys. The main aim of this dissertation work is to fmd out suitable parameters for transient liquid phase bonding of Al alloys. The work leads to development of setup for transient liquid phase bonding in the inert environment and latter to develop bond in the vacuum system, which is developed at department of metallurgical engineering Bengal engineering and Science University, Howrah. In the early stage of the work setup for transient liquid phase bonding was developed by using available resources and bonding was performed on it. But no results were found on it so suggestions for improvement of the setup are given in the conclusion part of the dissertation report. In the latter stage transient liquid phase bonding of Al-7039 was performed in vacuum setup and got sound bonds. Temperature and pressure range for TLP bond is concluded on the basis of microstructural and mechanical investigation of the bonds. Also best set of parameters is reported on the basis of strength in the conclusion. Bonds were made at two different temperatures and three different holding time for investigation purpose. Direct aluminum-aluminum bond was also made for comparison purpose.
