Experimental investigations have been carried out to study the effect of heat input and type of coating on the mechanical properties of structural steel. weldments. Is The single V butt weld with sealing runAmade between the base plates using electrode of three types of coatings i.e. Ruffle, Cellulosic and Basic. The weldments are tested for tensile strength (Yeild strength, ultimate tensile strength, percentage . elongation, percentage area reduction), Impact strength, Hardness and Fatigue strength. The mechanical testing of weldments indicates that highest strain hardening is associated with the basic weldments. Higher toughness, ultimate tensile strength and the fatigue resistance are observed over rutile and cellulosic weldments. No critical increase in hardness in heat affected zone has been observed with any weldment.en_US
