Issue Date: 1994
Abstract: In the present work, computer aided process planning system has been developed to prepare process plans for prismatic parts. The main emphasis of the work is given on feature identification. A feature identification system based on syntactic pattern approach has been developed to identify various geometrical features with technological specifications. This system is capable of selecting - Vertical milling machine is selected as machine tool because of its high production rates over horizontal milling machine. - The processes for different geometrical features depending upon the technological requirements of the parameter. - The type of the cutting tool. - The feed, depth of cut and cutting speedfor different tool materials (at present H.S.S and carbide). - The process sequencing is done on basis of technological dependencies. The present system generates process upto 4 features. The generated process plan are evaluated 'on the basis of machining time. The functioning of software has been ascertained by generating the process planning sheets for a component with various tool work material combination. Recommendations for future work have also been made on the basis of present work.
