Investigations have been carried out to find out the influence of various welding parameters such as current, voltage. speed, stickout and preheat temperature on the various characteristics of the deposited layer produced by single pass submerged arc strip cladding. For this study with conventional method, very large number of samples to be cladded were required. With the help of 'Central Composite Rotatable Design' the number of samples to be cladded reduced by a substantial amount without any loss of information. Thus resulting into substantial saving of time and money. The results of investigation have revealed that bead geometry, dilution, chromium; nickel; carbon and ferrite contents are affected by reasonable amount with most of the welding parameters. Chromium and nickel contents in the deposited layer increase and carbon content decreases with the increase in preheat temperatures. Though higher dilutions are associated with higher degree of preheats. Stickout does not have much influence on the flux consumption, carbon content, bead height and bead width but it appreciably influences the penetration, dilution and deposition rate. Welding voltage, current and speed are• going to have appreciable influence on almost all the characteristics of the deposited layer.en_US
