Issue Date: 1994
Abstract: This study embodies the influence of electrode extension on deposition rate and weld characteristics. The electrode extension was varied at fixed wire feed rate, using Submerged Arc Welding process. The study was carried out using two different fluxes, with basicity index 1.5 and 3.5. The study reveals that there is no influence of flux composition on reduction in current with electrode extension_ The weld dimensions vary-with electrode extension at fixed wire feed rate. The penetration and weld width decrease with electrode extension at fixed wire feed rate while reinforcement increases. The heat affected zone also decreases with electrode extension_ This -study also finds out the constants of general melting rate equation which can be utilized in determining the melting rate of the filler wire corresponding to given values of electrode extension and welding current.
