Abstract: The objective of this dissertation was to switch-aver from the manual process of managing the consumables inventory to computer aided management. The consumables in HAL comprise nearly 207.. of total inventory. The main purpose was to ensure regular supply of material as and when required. Secondly to stop wastage of consumables by proper inventory management, thereby reducing the cost. For this purpose a computer aided system was developed. Seventeen pr-og rams were written to perform the task. The work starts from the receipt of order. This order- gets translated into Production schedule. The quantity of consumables required is checked with existing stock. The balance quantity required alongwith previous shortages and rejection allowance is ordered for procurement. Any arrival of material is immediately posted in stock. Similarly any issue of material is also updated in stock. In this system, the data presents a realistic picture of stock. As a result various analytical and control reports can be generated with high degree of accuracy. This computer aided system was implemented and is fulfilling the objectives for which it was developed and designed. i i
