Abstract: The problem of natural draft dry cooling system of small capacity which can be incorporated in solar power plants in remote places, in refrigeration plants and In industries like chemical and fertilizer, has been studied In this work using numerical methods. Different available types of finned tube heat exchangers have• been used in vertical chimneys in the present analysis and the system is simulated by iterative methods,'for various. ranges._ of the relevant parameters like chimney height, diameter, inlet temperature of water and air etc. The results of simulation are presented graphically and thoroughly discussed to ascertain the inter-relation of various parameters. The optimum design has been obtained by maximizing the cooling rate with chimney surface area as a constraint using a search method. Also, correlations between relevant parameters have been obtained in a suitable form for ready use by designers.
