Abstract: ABSTRACT Burrs are sharp projections on the workpiece which are left uncut while machining. These are not desirable during machining, since they hit the cutting edge and cause its groove wear there by, reducing tool life. These are to be removed from the machined parts for their smooth functioning. Large amounts of time and money are spent for deburring these parts. This cost is directly proportional to the size of the burrs. Therefore it is necessary to know, how to reduce the burr size. Hitherto only few papers have been published which deal with mechanism of burr formation. This is due to the complexity of the problem involving plastic deformation with multideyrees of freedom. The dissertation work is devoted to develop mathemaatial models for burr height and breadth. Des3.cn of experiment technique was used to accomodate the simultaneous•variation of the parameters such as cutting speed, rake angle, feed and depth of cut_ Regression analysis has been applied for the analysis of experimental data. The effect of parameters on burr height and breadth have been discussed. The results show that all the parameters considered in the experiment are significant. The higher speeds, rake angles and depth of cut will yield reduced burr size but the burr size increase with higher feed.
