Abstract: The dissertation presents the useful correlations in the field of flood studies for south Gujarat Hiver. basins. On the region south of the Tap! river, practically no river has been harnessed, eventhough ample water resources are available uhich are wasted in to the sea every year. Gujarat State has been seriously thinking now to make use of this water potential by planning irrigation as well. as power projects at suitable places. There are about thirteen river gauging stations measuring daily discharges of the river since 1961. There are good number of raingauge stations within the basin measuring daily rainfall statistics since 1961. By making use of these observations a study for obtaining constants of the basin for derivation of synthetic unit hydrograph has been carried out which helps us to derive unit hydrograph of any site having any catchment area without going into establishing new river gauging station and awaiting its runoff records. A design maximum probable flood hydrograph could then be derived from it very conveni_ ently. A correlation of maximum probable peak versus catchment area has been also obtained in this dissertation.
