The land use/land cover change has a significant influence on the hydrological response from river basins. The run-off characteristics are naturally changes due to reduction of initial abstraction that increase the run-off volume. Thus it is necessary to quantify the likely changes in the run-off characteristics for a catchment as an impact of the planned or unplanned changes occurred in the land use/land cover. These changes might be sudden or may be continuous. Physically based conceptual models are developed to find out surface run-off and. one of the example is the Soil Conservation Service (SCS-CN) model which has broad range of applicability. The present study is for the application of the SCS-CN model to analyse the impact of various land use/land cover change on the run-off characteristics of the catchment of Narmada basin at the gauge- discharge site of Mandaleswar in Madhya Pradesh, India. And it also an application to found out the Hydro Power Potential in present and future due to run-off changed condition. The study includes preparation of land use/land cover may at various years using the satellite imageries and other maps like drainage network an Digital Elevation Model (DEM), development of a data base from the map using GIS an modelling of the run-off considering various land use/land cover condition using SCS-CT model.en_US
