Abstract: it is well known fact that with the rapid development in technology the designs of vehicles are becoming more & more complex for efficient use. On the other hand the skill of mechanics does not update with the same pace. Hence for repair of vehicles, mechanic must be EXPERT. TO EXPERTISE the mechanic - in vehicles repairing, a knowledge-based approach for troubleshooting is required. This dissertation is devoted to develop a knowledge based system for troubleshooting in Auto-Repair Shop, considering almost all troubles, related with different systemf~ of an automobile.. The software will be advantageous because , the faults can be located prior to unit being disassembled hence overall time of repair is reduced and estimate of the repair can be made. To develop the package, computer language "TUBRO PROLOG" is used because of its ability to infer facts from other facts..
