Abstract: The dissertation deals with the distance relaying applied to E.E.V. Power System network with particular reference to U,P. Power System, The work presents the chronological growth of U.P. power system and protection schemes. The existing dis. tance protection schemes in TLP. Power System have been described and their characteristics studied. An attempt has been made to analyse critically the suitability of the distance protection schemes employed in the U.P. Power Transmission network. Suggestions have been incorporated for suitable modifications in the existing distance protection schemes where-ever necessary. The modern trends in distance relaying incorpora-ting solid state devices have been reviewed. The requirements for the projected 400 KV line protection have been discussed and suggestions made for selection of a proper protection scheme. The work done in this thesis provides basis for improvements in the iJ.P. Power transmission system protection.
