Abstract: Tnformation is of great impor.•tance to make decisions., An efficient_ system t=o provide quick, accurate, relevant and timely information is a pre-requisite of a successful management of a business organisation. Computers can revolutionise the Management Information System (MIS) by making use of its ability to handle large amount of data with speed and accuracy. Many advanced concepts in MIS like Decision Support Systems (DSS), Expert Systems (ES), Communication Information Theory (CIT), Electronic Mail (E. Mail) etc. are being evolved to make management functions more efficient and effective. The aim of this dissertation is to -study the existing MIS of Vard hman Grup (VG), a medium size industry, identify the problems therein and suggest an alternative system at corporate level and individual company level. In persuance of the same, a macro-level information-flow-structure symbolising gross system n model has been advanced both at corporate and individual company level. This model will act as a tool to quide towards detail designing and mapping each and every subsystem encompassing all functions. An integrated MIS thus designed will provide v.G...a real flip to their management decision making and controlling of various business activities. 111 iv .Personnel and marketing sub-systems have been designed in some details in extension of 'the gross system model proposed in the study. Recruitment module of personnel sub-system has been specifically dealt in detail. This module facilitates the shortlisting of candidates for recruitment. The logical system developed for this purpose has been validated to test its efficacy. A comparison has been done between the existing and the proposed system which establishes the superiority of the proposed system. Within the unifying framework of gross system model prescribed in the .study all other sub-systems modules can be developed on the similar line as that of the recruitment module.
