Abstract: Productivity is at the heart of economic growth and development. It is the focal point of current public interest in business and economic matters all over the world. A better appreciation of productivity can help us in understanding critical issues clearly and lead to the formulation of appropriate economic policies and management practices. As far as the meaning and measurement of this vital factor is concerned, a well known yarn in management circle is the story of three blind men who were asked to find out "what is an elephat-like?" Because each blind man was feeling and analysing a different part of the huge and complex body, a heated argument developed among -them. One had his hands on tail and claimed the elephant was like a rope. Another had his hand on the body and argued that the animal was a large, soft and flabby mass. The third had his hands on (the legs leading him to claim it was like the trunk of a tree. Similar is the situation of productivity of an manufacturing organization. If a method measure some aspect of performance of organization and assumes it as the representative index of organization then this would not be fair. So there is needed a model which can monitor the overall performance of an organization effectively and rightly. This dissertation work deals with same problem and in the fast changing environment when conventional models are not very useful tries to solve the problem through stystematic system approach considedring the manufacturing organization as a system.
