The area considered in this Dissertation is the Banas Valley lying on eastern side of Aravalli Hills. The major part of precipitation occurs in the month of July and August. The area lies in semi-arid zone. The lower part of the valley is covered with alluvium of varying thickness and the part is hilly except some alluvial cover along the river course. The area covered by alluvial is the only potential zones with medium to good water yields. The only source of recharge is the precipitation and is 14.8342 x 106 M.Cft. The losses due to evapotranspiration has been calculated by Khosla, Blaney Criddle, ai.d Thornthwaite method.. No systematic geo-physical, geologic investigations have been carried out in the region. The geo-hydrological studies have been confined to potential zones only. The geologic and geo-hydrological investigations have been done for the valley fill in Tank District. The quality of water is generally satisfactory except some local areas where water is hard. The total ground water potential on ultimate development will be 17.5735 x 104 Melt (4.028 x 106 Acft). The present utilisation is about 25 % of the total potential. The ultimate potential includes potential includes potential (27393 Mcft) which is to be developed by artificial recharge. For optimum utilisation of the ground water resources of the region, it is necessary that geophysical surveys should be taken up for the entire region, followed by detailed geologic investigation.en_US
