Keywords: WATER RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT;HYDROLOGY;INFILTRATION;SOUTH BIHAR RIVER CATCHMENTS
Issue Date: 1969
Abstract: A brief review coverthg the importance of infiltration , the present knowledge of the subject, the methods available for determining the Wiltratiu characteristics of drainage basins and the genera, use of infiltration data its computations of riff Is presented. The applicability of the different methods of determining infiltration characteristics In the context of the general availability of the required basic hydrologic data Is d.souseed. The data of two river basins of South Bihar, namely$ the Ajoy and the chandan are analysed for (i) arriving at the infiltration parameters for use in estimation of extreme floods, and (iii) establishing graphical charts for use In flood forecasting. The results of the analysis are presented and their limitations discussed. Finally,, the scope for further work in the field is indicated.
