Abstract: The Earth's interior is inaccessible to direct observation. Our knowledge of the properties of the earth's interior comes mr .i.nly from the studies of the propagation of elastic waves generated by earthquakes which pass through different regions of the earth. Academician B. B. Golitsyn linkened earthquakes to a lantern, the momentary flash of which illuminates the nor sally inaccessible stricture of the earth at depth. The department of gcology & geophysics has initiated research prograsmos to study the seismoto tonice of the Himalayan region through micro earthquake studies. Such study require accurate determination of hypocenter of micro earthquakes. a3t computor programmes wore alydady svilabie for hypocenter location. 3iowovort since there were developed mainly for relatively simple geological conditions, it was felt that they may not be very suitable for the region in which the departm nt plane to install its micro-earthquake recording array. The prosent study was initiated as a first step to develop expertise in processing the data recorded by micro-earthquakes recorders. Absence of any array in the Himalayan region at present has compelled me to use data from other regiond to test the pro grammes, However, it is felt that as soon as field data is available from Himalayan region the proraurnes developed will be useful in locating the events,
