Abstract: Location and Accessibility:- The area under investigation lies in Garhwal and Nainital Districts of Uttar Pradesh and is enclosed by latitudehN780 25' and N79° 35' and longitu-des E29° 13' and 29° 48'. It incorporates approximately 1000 sq.miles of the Siwalik hills running NW - SE and is bounded by Khoh river in the West and Gola river in the East. It is included in Survey of India one inch K topo sheet Nos. 53/9, 53 K/7.9, 53 K/14, 53 K/15, 53 0/12, 53 0/3, and 53 0/16. Three field sections of the Lower Siwaliks viz. (i) North of Kotdwara, (ii) North of Ramnagar and (iii) North of Kathgodam and one field section of the Middle Siwgliks, North of Kalagarh, were investigated with a view to work out their environment of deposition, paleocurrents and provenance (see Fig.l')). Kotdwara,Kath-godam and Ramnagar are the railway stations and are acce-ssible by train. Kalagarh is connected to Dhampur by motor-road. Dhampur is a railway station between Moradabad and Laksar.
