GEOLOGY OF THE AREA AROUND NEWSMIX WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO CORBONATE ROCKS AT KIKAWAS (DISTT. UDAIPUR), RAJASTHAN

Abstract

'While man has to learn, mankind must have different opinions ............' •- Hutton. The rock types known as carbonatites have drawn attention of the geologists the world over in the last few years. The main controversy arose because of the fact that the carbonatites are mineralogically similar to limestones and marbles but behave to appear as intrusives. Rocks of this kind have been first described by Bose (1864) from lower Narbada valley, India. In (1895) Hogbom has described rocks of this type from Alno island Sweeden. Brogger, Daly, Ri=ey, Von Eokermann, Barth and Ramberg has also described similar rocks in later years. In India, such rocks are recognised at Ambadon gar, Barwaha and at Newania. The rocks of Newania were first described as having affinity towards carbonatites by Dar. The general interest in a rare type of rock encouraged the author to work in this area. The work was started in June, 1968. A systematic study of the observations and samplescollected during a field work of fifty days was done in the departmental laboratories. Due to the limited time and resources full justice to the problem could not be done. The following pages reproduce in substance a study of stra-tigraphy, structure, petrography, petrogenesis, petro-chemistry and economics of the area. F.K.
