The Krol Nappe exposed in the Garhwal Syncline is overlain by the stratigraphically older Chakrata Formation (Fm) of the Damtha Group of rocks which is further overlain by the Chandpur Fm of the Jaunsar Group. The contact between the Blaini Fm of the Krol Nappe and Chakrata Fm is a thrust contact. This study aims at understanding the structural relationship between the Chakrata Fm and the overlying Chandpur Fm. A Geological Map of the area has been made and a possible explanation to the current sequence of litho-units in• the area has been proposed. Structural analysis has been carried out in the Rishikesh-Deoprayag-Srinagar area by plotting foliation and lineation data on equal—area, lower hemisphere projections. These studies reveal the fact that there exists a discontinuity between the Chakrata Fm and the Chandpur Fm, which are structurally concordant, with the degree of deformation increasing as we move towardsen_US
