A single phase i H.P., 50 C.P.S.0 230 volts 4-pole capacitor motor with a burnt out stator winding was available in the laboratory. Instead of the routine repair shop practice of rewinding the machine as a single phase motor, the author carried out a project of redesigning and rewinding it for polyphase operation. The motor was primarily designed for 1 H.P. 3-phase 4004, 4-pole, 50 C.P.S. operation. The winding was made flexible, so that the coils could be interconnected in various ways for different number of phase including single phase..................en_US
