dc.description.abstractIn India there is a bidirectional contract between central generating stations (CGS) and state generating stations (SGS). Every state is allotted a scheduled amount of power from CGS according to its share. Most of the time there is deviation from scheduled power, because SGS do not have enough capacity to meet the required load demand. Load dispatch centers in India do measure deviation of contract power in terms of frequency variations. In India, central power grid allows frequency variations between 49 to 50.5 Hz and hence penalty/benefits being charged/paid based on availability based tariff (ABT). In most of states of India pumped storage power plants operate to meet the desire grid frequency. But for efficient operation of the pumped storage power plants evolutionary particle swarm optimization technique has been used to maximize the profit gained by the individual state. The proposed algorithm has been validated on a practical pumped storage power plant of southern India.en_US
