dc.description.abstractThe ambient air.temperature and Incident solar radia-tion changes every moment of the day• Depending upon this the value of the critical thickness of insulation to be provided for various applications must also change• In the present work, the critical thickness of insulation has been defined for such a periodic variation of the ambient temperature and absorbed solar radiation, in relation to its temperature response for building materials• Various methods of finding room temperature response have been discussed, out of which the response factor method has been used in the present work. A theory has been developed and used to calculate the critical thickness of insulation; for various materials for few representative days in summer and winter seasons. The results obtained have been compared with the critical thickness ofii insulation calculated by another existing method. Computer programme has been developed for calculating these values for any place and any day.en_US
