dc.description.abstract | Distribution system are critical links the utility and the consumer. The ever-increasing need for electrical power generation, steady progress in power deregulation and tight constraints over the construction of new transmission lines for long distance power transmission have created increased interest in distributed power generation. Optimal placement and sizing of distributed generation (DG) units in distribution system reduce the energy losses, improve the voltage profile, release the transmission capacity, decrease equipment stress, and improve the system reliability. Many techniques have been developed to solve the problem of sizing of multiple distributed generation units in distribution system. Their objective is to reduction of power loss, improvement of system voltage profile, minimization of cost and maximization of generation capacity. In this thesis, an analytical method is presented to calculate optimal size of multiple DG units. The procedure for sizing of multiple DG units along with minimum system loss is discussed. A technique to get the optimal size is presented for DGs capable of delivering real power only. Besides, grid search algorithm method is also introduced. The objective is to minimize system power loss for radial systems. Multiple DG units are sized to achieve the highest loss reduction in distribution networks. This is tested on two different distribution test system. This method is compared with grid search algorithm based on successive load flows. | en_US |
