Modern method of static frequency conversion has liberated the induction motor from its historical role as a fixed speed machine. Scalar control is one of the variable frequency techniques, and is very simple to implement but it is not having fast dynamic response. Then present work deals with vector control technique. First mathematical modelling of induction motor with the concept of space vectors in stationary reference frame with indirect field oriented control scheme is presented. Then modelling of vector controlled induction motor drive is done ,by deriving it's transfer function. Speed controller is designed using transfer functions and same is used in matlab with PI tuner and Genetic Algorithm to determine optimum kp and ki.The indirect field oriented control scheme is successfully implemented using simulation in Matlab/Simulink and as well as implemented practically using IPM module and DSP F2812 . Work is done under different operating conditions such as no load condition, load conditions, during acceleration, during deceleration. In the above procedure mentioned, conventional PI type speed controller has been used. But PI controller suffers with the disadvantages of occurrence of overshoots. So to avoid those problems in place of PI controller neural controller is used. Also it is shown that neural controller is somewhat robust for parameter variations than PI. With the simulation results obtained it can be reasonable to conclude that neural controller is better than the normal PI controller.en_US
