Abstract: Self-excited induction generators (SEIGs) are being increasingly utilized in stand -alone generation systems that employ wind and hydro power. An increase in the rotor speed will result in a proportionate increase in frequency, often accompanied by severe overvoltage and excessive current. Although the slip-ring machine is more expensive and requires more maintenance, it permits rotor slip-power control when driven by a variable-speed turbine. For fixed value stator load impedance and excitation both the voltage and frequency can be maintained constant when speed is varied over a wide range by rotor side controller. In this dissertation work, simulation model of rotor side controller has been developed. The hardware implementation of rotor side controller has . been done in both analogue and digital signal processing (DSP) circuit. For analogue circuit, a simple PWM chip (SG3525) is used and feedback voltage is sensed by using single phase step down transformer. For digital circuit, TMS320F28335 DSP has been used. Simulation results are validated by hardware results.
