dc.description.abstractStream flow data has always played an'important role in planning and design of water resources development projects. But it is generally found that such data are available for short periods. Therefore, hydrologists and engineers are always interested to extend that available observed series of f low data. Rainfall is the single important parameter which affects runoff directly as over land flow or indirectly as subsurface and ground water. Rainfall—runoff relationships are developed in order to extend the runoff series with the help of available longer series of rainfall data. These relationships are developed using relatively simple techniques involving some linear; or non—linear term. Such techniques include graphical relationships such as simple rainfall runoff plots, coaxial graphical techniques using API and statistical techniques such as simple linear and multiple regression equations etc. Such statistical techniques has been found to be quite an effective tool in establishing rainfall and runoff relationship. The runoff data (1955-1965) at Pong and rainfall data (1965-1970) at 12 stations for Beas catchment have been used to develop rainfall—runoff relationship for 10 daily, monthly and monsoon period using simple and multiple regression technique. Water availability has also been estimated on the basis of developed relationships.en_US
