In this work the influence of artificiallyâ–º controlled contact length tools on cutting forces , flank wear# coefficient of friction, chip thickness ratio and shear angle has been studied. Also the effect of variation in the side rake angle has been studied on above parameters. The experiments have been _ carried on _ 14.8. pipe ( 0.2 % C, 0.023% S, Ill B.H.N.) with H.S.S. ( Salvin with 5% Cobalt). For the condition investigated it has been found that tools with of _ the natural contact length give best performances, . Also .t has _ been found that variation in side rake angle does not have any appriciable effect on above mentioned parameters at l+O controlled contact lengthen_US
