dc.description.abstractEnough studies have been carried out on the flank and crater wear of coated carbide tools. But the wears likegroovings and chip notching have been mostly ignored. Groovings andchip notching wear are sometimes considerable and may be responsible for tool failure. In the present investigation groovings and chip notching behaviour of carbides and coated carbides (Tic coating on WC substrate) too's have been investigated and a comparison, at different speed has been made. Also the tool wears have been estimated experimentally as well as using theoretical wear models. The investigation reveals that the wears due to groovings and chip notching are considerably less in coated carbides as compared to plain carbides. The plain carbides have been found to be more prone to tool failure due to these wears thus establishing the super-iority of coated carbides over plain carbide in respect of these wears,en_US
