Abstract: | Economic selection of cutting conditions is an important task In the field of machining. The main problem which is faced in optimization of cutting conditions is that, once selected the optimum cutting conditions do not remain optimum throughout the complete machining operation due to dynamic variations in the process parameters upon which the decision of optimization depends. In view of this there is a need to update the optimum cutting conditions continuously. For this purpose in this work,a software OMOTOM (on-line multiobjective optimization of turning )has been developed whichsimulates a running lathe and applies the principles of multiobjective optimization to optimize on-line the cutting conditions for a CNC lathe capable of varying rpm and feed rates continuously. The objectives of-otimization are• minimization of machining cost and minimization of machining time. The problem of multiobjective optimization is highly non-linear which requires much time for solution. Since, on-line optimization requires quick solut. ton or the problem the existing methods are not, much efficient.. To resolve this difficulty, in this work, a new method of solution of non-linear optimization problems has been developed, which uses partial differentiation for local linearisation of the problem. |
