Abstract: | An experimental study has been made on the effect of welding parameters on the fatigue properties of multipass submerged arc welds. The influence of welding parameters such as welding current, arc, voltage with two polarities have been studied. The welds are made by using C-Mn filler wire and basic flux. The welds was obtained by butt joining of 40 mm thick mild steel plates. The fatigue test results indicate that the fatigue strength of the weld metal deposited with DCEP is comparitively less than that of the weld metal deposited with DCEN at 500 A current, however at higher current at 700 A the fatigue strength is better with DCEP in comparision with DCEN. It has been observed that the fatigue strength of weld metal increases when voltage increases from 28 V to 34 V for different combinations of welding parameters except when weld metal is deposited under 500 A current with DCEP polarity. |
