dc.description.abstractAlcohols are being proven [1]* to be a good substitute as a fuel in spark-ignited engines. However, they have the problem of producing aldehydes. Aldehydes have strong odour, they affect pulmonary system and it is belived that they react photochemically in the atmosphere, becoming the source of smog caused eye- irritation. A major problem of using methanol or methanol blends in Internal Combustion engines is the formation of large amount of formaldehyde. One of the problems of the researches have been the accurate measurement of aldehydes. There have been different methods of measurement of aldehydes in use. Among them the most widely used has been the method of 3-methyl, 2--benzo- thiazolaneh,ydrazone (MBTH). Another more recent method is 2-4 dinitrophenyl hydrazone (DNPH).. f In the present study an experimental•investigation, was carried out to study the influence of several engine operating parameters on al.dehyde emission. Colorimetric 2-4 dinitrophenyl hydrazone (colorimetric-DNPH) method was used to evaluate aldehyde concentration in a methanol fueled, two stroke, spark ignited.stationary engine. *Underscored numbers in parenthesis designate references at the end.en_US
