Abstract: With increasing interest in group technology and the cell system of production, the problem of determining the optimum layout of machines and their cells demands attention. 1-hen it is desired to arrange the machines in a production flow line, the problem arises of determining the sequence in which the machines should be laid out so as to ease material handling and work flow. This problem is referred to as a multi—product line layout problem. In this dissertation the problem of derieving the optimum layout sequence for machines in multi—product product-ion line has been attempted. The proposed procedures prepare various alternative line designs, which are evaluated by computer simulation. Also a computer method is proposed to determine the optimum layout of cells for the multi—product production.
