Issue Date: 1986
Abstract: CO2 moulding process is one- of the important pro-cesses and has got wider application in foundry industries. From the raw material point of view, the binder is easily prepared because it is produced from readily available raw materials, whereas many of the other competitive processes are dependent to a considerable extent on raw materials which are either petroleum based or available from a limited number of suppliers. The CO2 process itself consumes less energy than many ofthe other processes and environmentally the process has advantage over the hot box, cold box, shell and cold set resin processes. In the present investigation an attempt has been made to study the effect of various parameters on the stren-gth of CO2 - mould. The effect of quantity of sodium silicate and silica/soda ratio on the, reak-down property of the sand specimen at various temperatures between 250 to 1000°C has been studied. The effect of various additions of coal dusts pitch, iron oxide, calcium carbonate and mo--llasses on as-gassed strength and retained strength after baking has been established.............
