Abstract: The quality of self lubrication makes porous or sintered bearings useful in those applications where oil feeding is difficult or oil is scarce. Porous bearings are manufactured by powder metallurgy technique, consequently, they can be economically produced and a. precise control over dimensional accuracy is possible. These merits, which the conventional solid bearings do not possess, are making porous bearings increasing popular among lubrication engineers. During the last two decades, ever since the first analytical treatment of porous journal bearing problem by Cameron and his coworkers in 1957, the interest in theoretical and experimental research in the field of porous bearing lubrica-tion has grown up at a very rapid rate. A considerable amount of literature is now available dealing with both static and dynamic performance characteristics of porous bearings under incompressible as well as compressible lubrication. The research in the understanding and investigation of performance characteristics of porous bearing lubrication seems to be unending. The current interest of the lubrication engineers is the reevaluation of the performance of porous bearings on the basis of more realistic boundary conditions which permit for the tangential velocity slip in accordance with Beavers-Joseph criterion.....
