The fields of 'OPTIMIZATION TECHNIQUES AND PRODUCTION M iNA GEMENT' continue to shift in the direc-tion of more analytical approach based on the continued development of clearer concept in the discipline of Industrial Engineering. The Industrial and Production Engineering techniques can best and most easily be oxamplified for a manufacturing concern. The work embodied in this dissertation pertains to studios on an optimization technique and planning Which go in for the development of a new product. Optimization technique deals with the rational design of experimental work, which involves mainly the use of statistical methods for extracting information from preexisting data and the arrangement of the indivi- dual items composing a' complex experiment designed for a given purpose and the statistical analysis of the information so extracted. It is worth sires sirg that whenever a problem involves the use of data which are subject to appreciable experimental errors, the statis-tical methods offer a shund and logical means of treatment. A good experimental design is one which furnishes the required information with minimum of experimental errc}r, One such method is 32 factorial analysis. To the result so obtained, statistical tests of significance are often applied in interpretting the results to ascertain which facto: s influence the results significantly. Finally the optimization of the parameters involved in the experiment can well be achieved by fitting an orthogonal polynomial.....en_US
