In this work, the effect of ambient atmospheres on the burning velocity of LPG—Air mixtures has been examined by the use of nozzle burner method. Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) was used as the fuel as it is commere-ially available in India for domestic utilization. A vertical run up tube was used to accommodate various sizes of nozzles and provision was made for surrounding the burner with different gases (CO2, 02 and air ) . The burning velocity was determined by the total area method for different mixture compositions. Photographs of flames were taken by using direct photographic technique. Curves of burning velocity versus percent fuel in air have been drawn for different ambient atmospheres and compared with similar results obtained by other workers.en_US
