Peening is the process of finishing metal by compressing its outer surface layer by high frequency cyclic blows of a highly polished and hardened steel ball. It is the application of cold working process, improves the surface finish and hardness of the outer layer of metal. In this work " EFFECTS OF PEENING ON MACHINED SURFACE " , the parameters that influence surface finish and hardness of the workpiece have been identified and recommended for their best values. The statistical experimental design technique has been used inorder to evaluate these parameters. An analytical model of the surface finish and hardness were also formulated. However the entire work was limited upto the use of steel balls only.en_US
