The work presented here comprises of experi-mental Investigation on wear of bearing metals due to presence of abrasive particles in the lubricating oil (BA.S-30 oil). Wear tests are carried out for M.B.-bronze and M.S.-brass metal pairs using SAS-30 lubricating oil containing silicon carbide (as abrasives) particles. Effect of abrasive particle size# normal load and amount of abrasive present In the lubricating oil on the wear of metal pairs in investigated.. Res-u ,ts indicate that wear rate increases with an increase in the diameter of abrasive particles. However this is not true for the particles of larger sizes. Wear rate was also found to increase with an increase In the concentration of abrasive in the lubricating oil. Within a certain range of normal load wear rate was found to decrease after attaining a maximum. Wear rate again Increases with further increase of normal load owing to the temperature rise of the surface.en_US
