Abstract: Burning velocities of LPG - Air mixture were determined by use of modified burner technique and Schlieren photography. Scholte and Vaage nozzle burner and sharp edged orifice nozzle burner were employed and the data were obtained over a range of mixture compositions and LPG contents of the cylinder. The effect of fuel/air ratio and the cylinder contents o1% the burning velocity were investigated. The results showed that good agreement exists between the experimental values of LPG concentrations for maximum mixtures with theoretically computed values over the entire range of cylinder contents. However, the experimental values of burning velocity are considerably lower than the theoretical maximum value perhaps due to presence of certain impurities and adou.rin€; agent which act as inert admixtures and exert inhibiting; effect on the burning velocities of LPG - Air mixtures. Maximum burning velocity varies from about 25 cm/sec. to 30 cm/sec. over the entire range of cylinder contents.
