The growth of use of long distance transmission of power and interconnected systems has been rapid due to 0 the increased reliability of service and relative ease of obtaining the selectivity. This dissertation is an attempt for the protection of transmission lines by "A Static Polyphase Distance Relay Element".. against all types of shunt faults except three phase fault„ and a successful attempt has been made to extend the relay for the protec-tion of line against single phase to ground faults also. The development of static relays have been reviewed and other polyphase schemes as suggested by various authors are explained. Also certain definite advantages are claimed for the scheme developed by the author over the other schemes.en_US
