Abstract: Fire in plastics involves pyrolysis of the virgin fuel. In case of fire in plastics, the plastic material within the virgin material undergoes pyrolysis and the products reach the surface where they start take part in combustion. In this work, the effects of modeling decisions and parameter estimation methods on the pyrolysis modeling of various plastic samples viz HDPE, PP, PS, PET, PP+PS,PP+PET, PS+PET, PP+PS+PET were studied. The data for HDPE was analysed and others being analyzed. The kinetic parameters were estimated from TGA. The TG and DSC curves were plotted against the temperature at various heating rates for HDPE. For other only DSC curves were plotted. The kinetics parameters E,A and n estimated from TG of HDPE shown good agreement for determining theoretical mass fraction. The data from DSC was used in FDS simulation at constant heat flux.
