Ultra-Wideband communication has developed as an efficient way of providing high speed applications for short range communications. Ultra-wideband communication systems are used in indoor environments with dense multi-path characteristics. Therefore channel estimation has an important role in the receiver of these systems. Mainly two types of channel estimation techniques are addressed in this work. One of them is maximum likelihood technique and the other is least square technique. The objective of these algorithms is to fmd the approximate value of channel parameters which is required for equalization at the receiver. In one algorithm ML estimation is used for estimating the channel parameters, while the other one uses LS estimation. Performance of ML algorithm is evaluated for PPM modulation at the transmitter and for LS algorithm PAM modulation is used. Finally, performance of these two algorithms is compared in MATLAB. For the purpose of comparison PPM modulation technique is used for both the algorithms.en_US
