Abstract: Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector routing (AODV) is a widely adopted network routing protocol for Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET). However it is vulnerable to some of the security attacks. Black hole attack is one of them. In this attack, a malicious node injects a fake Route Reply message to deceive the source node so that the source node establishes a route to the malicious node and sends all the data packets to the malicious node. It drops data packets and reduces packet delivery ratio of network substantially. The aim of this dissertation is to design and implement a secure routing protocol that improves performance of AODV under black hole attack. We have proposed two methods, one Secure Ad hoc On demand Distance Vector algorithm (SAODV), reduces effect of black hole attack by directly verifying the destination node by using the exchange of random numbers and the other Opinion-Ad hoc On demand Distance Vector (OAODV) algorithm considers feedback of others while forwarding the data . Analysis and Comparison is done for AODV without black hole, AODV with black hole attack, and proposed protocols. Results show that both the protocols improve the packet delivery ratio in presence of black hole attacker.
