Abstract: In the Present work, more rigorous mathematical model has been incorporated, which reveals that although the linear interface theory may satisfactorily predict oil production rate due to almost similar characteristics of boundary layer near the steam chamber — oil interface, but steam efficiency in actual case is much lower than that predicted by boundary layer theory. The objective of the work was to examine mechanism of steam assisted gravity drainage an enhanced oil recovery method in oil reservoirs using ANSYS FLUENTTM for numerical simulation purpose to study growth of the steam chamber, developments in velocity profile and to increase oil recovery. The application of steam injection to horizontal wells for the heavy oil recovery from reservoirs has been investigated using a 2D model
