Issue Date: 2007
Abstract: In Air lift reactor, air circulates inside the reactor and it lifts the liquid to upward side so it is called air lift reactor but also reacts with active liquid . Air lift reactors are generally two types, internal loop and external loop air lift reactor. The numerical simulation works done on external loop air lift reactor. By using CFD tool and fluent 6.2.16, studied the profiles for velocity, pressure, volume fraction of water. Air lift reactor is generally used for slow reactions like oxidation, chlorination etc. Air lift reactor is finding the increasing applications in chemical industry, biomedical fermentation and biological waste water treatment process. The air lift reactor has four sections, in which gas and liquid enters is called the riser and where the process completed is called the separator and other part is downcomer in which the liquid air mixture circulate through bottom connecting pipe so in this work velocity, pressure, liquid volume fraction, air volume fraction in riser, downcomer, separator and in bottom connecting pipe studied
