Abstract: For the design and construction of buildings, it is essential to choose a suitable structural system. Beams are one of many structural components that are essential to the overall stability and support of the structure. A comparison of the effectiveness of prismatic and non-prismatic beams in building construction is done in this study. Investigating the benefits and drawbacks of prismatic and non-prismatic beams in terms of load bearing capability, deflection characteristics, and overall material required is the goal of this study. To learn more about the design concepts, building methods, and structural behaviour of both types of beams, a thorough review of the literature is done. To model and assess the behaviour of prismatic and non-prismatic beams under various loading circumstances, Etabs is used. The results are compared between both the building with prismatic and non-prismatic beam. The study investigates how different cross-sectional geometries, such as depth, width, and tapering changes, affect the performance of the beams. Additionally, it investigates how various material characteristics, like stiffness and strength, affect their behaviour. Both beam types of economic merits are assessed, considering things like material usage, building time. The results of this study are intended to offer significant insights into the suitability of prismatic and non-prismatic beams for various architectural applications to engineers, architects, and construction professionals. By providing a thorough comparative analysis of these beam types, the study adds that the use of non-prismatic beam is economical as compared to prismatic beam also non-prismatic beam has aesthetic importance.
