The environment faces a serious threat from waste plastic and its disposal, which causes pollution and global warming. The characteristics and strength of bituminous mixtures are improved by adding plastic garbage. Additionally, it will provide a solution for plastic disposal as well as a number of pavement flaws such potholes, corrugations, and ruts. Use of waste plastic provides various benefits like increase in resistance to deformation, increase in strength and durability, reduction in seepage and mitigation of pollution etc. Objective of this thesis is to examine and compare the effect of blade geometry and two different type of plastic (PP & LDPE) on the physical and rheological properties of bitumen and bituminous mix. In the present study, two different type of waste recycled plastic i.e. Polypropylene (PP) and Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) from Mumbai source have been taken in five different dosages (3%, 4%, 5%, 6% and 7% by the weight of the binder). The base binder is used is VG 30. It was concluded from the laboratory study that addition of the waste plastic reduces the penetration and increases the softening point of the bitumen. Rotational Viscosity values are also decreases subsequently on addition of the waste plastic. Blade 1 amongst all the three blades found to be more effective as it blends the mixture more perfectly than other two and the result of Penetration, Softening point, Rotational viscosity corresponding to blade found to be satisfactory and this is due to the fact that lumps corresponding to blade 1 in all the dosage comes out to be very less or negligible as compared to other two blades means the dosage we add in the binder is completely blended while in other two blades lumps can be seen which means the plastic dosage couldn’t get blended 100% and thus impact can be seen in the results.en_US
