| Abstract: | Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) are a new class of metamaterials that can manipulate electromagnetic waves to improve wireless communication systems. They are typically made up of a large number of sub-wavelength sized elements that can be electrically tuned to reflect or transmit electromagnetic waves in a specific direction. Beam steering using RIS can be achieved by adjusting the phase shifts of the individual elements of the surface. To steer the beam in a particular direction, the phase shifts of the RIS elements are adjusted in a way that the reflected waves from each element are constructively combined in the desired direction and destructively combined in other directions. Beam steering is a crucial technology for various applications where the direction and focus of electromagnetic waves need to be controlled and optimized. The Research done here is to create a reconfigurable Reflectarray element using tunable resonator approach and creating an array with the help of it and optimizing the codebook for beam steering. The results are obtained for the unit cell at different frequencies as per different applications. While RIS holds great promise for improving wireless communication systems, further research is needed to address the above limitations and optimize the technology for practical applications. |
